Join India's mission to establish 5,000 CBG plants by 2025 and contribute to a cleaner, greener future!
The Sustainable Alternative Towards Affordable Transportation (SATAT) was launched on 1st October 2018 aiming to establish an ecosystem for production of Compressed Bio Gas (CBG) from various waste/ biomass sources in the country. This flagship initiative by the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas encourages the use of Compressed Biogas (CBG) as a clean and sustainable alternative to conventional fuels in transportation and industrial sectors.
Under SATAT, Oil and Gas Marketing Companies IOCL, BPCL, HPCL, GAIL and IGL have invited Expression of interest (EoI) to procure CBG from potential entrepreneurs for further marketing.
Launch Date: October 1, 2018
Implementing Ministry: Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas
Vision: Sustainable energy ecosystem for waste-to-wealth conversion
Oil & Gas marketing companies are executing long term agreements for off-take of CBG at an assured price.
CBG can be sold for use in CNG vehicles, industrial fuels, or even injected into the gas grid with guaranteed market access.
Private players, cooperatives, FPOs, and startups can set up CBG plants with government support and incentives.
CBG can be produced from agricultural residue, cattle dung, municipal solid waste, press mud, and other organic waste materials.
Buy-back of agricultural waste improves rural economy and provides additional income sources for farmers.
High calorific value, low emissions, and cleaner air quality compared to traditional fossil fuels.
The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy notified Central Financial Assistance (CFA) of Rs. 4 crore per 4,800 kg of CBG per day generated from 12,000 cubic metres of biogas per day, with a maximum of Rs.10 crore per project.
Reserve Bank of India has notified inclusion of CBG projects under Priority Sector Lending vide directives to Banks dated 4.9.2020. State Bank of India has also developed a new loan product for financing of CBG projects.
Government allocated ₹564 crore from FY24 to FY27 for biomass collection machinery with grants covering up to 50% of machinery cost, capped at ₹90 lakh per set.
The Government of India has also introduced the "Market Development Assistance" (MDA) scheme in the form of Rs 1500 per MT to support marketing of organic fertilizers.
Essential documents for CBG plant setup:
Government-issued identity proof
Or lease agreement for land use
Detailed Project Report (DPR)
Bank passbook / cancelled cheque
State-specific consent forms
